Substantial infrastructure construction work was completed on the prestigious SA1 Waterfront Development in Swansea. Encompassing the construction of roadways, foul and surface water drainage systems, provision of utility substructure and extensive landscaping.
The scheme comprised work in deep excavations, tidal conditions, traffic management, extensive landscaping, street lighting and signage. The site was adjacent to Fabian Way, renowned for its extremely busy thoroughfare, demanding robust traffic management provision. The area was fenced to prevent unauthorised access whilst maintaining access to the Port Authority.
Construction of a reinforced earth ‘Geogrid’ retaining wall was completed, 900mm storm water outfall discharged to sea via a dock headwall. This outfall was up to 4m deep in places demanding box shuttering and dewatering facilities.
Production of a modular precast concrete box culvert sewerage system. Consistent and ongoing dewatering was performed, in consideration of the granular nature of the ground and close proximity to the sea, and all waste water was discharged to stilling lagoons. Provision was made for utility infrastructure and Jones liaised with Utility Companies to achieve successful delivery.
